THE NATINAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN OF CANADA APPROVES 10 RESOLUTIONS AT ITS 110TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The National Council of Women of Canada met in Windsor from May 28 to June 1 for their 110th Annual General Meeting. Discussing and voting on resolutions took centre stage with several of the resolutions dealing with the monetary situation and urging the Federal Government to:
1. place clear requirements on how public money transferred to the provinces and territories is used
2. provide additional resources to urban and rural municipalities to meet their increased responsibilities
3. support fairer rules of trade
Another resolution urged the Government to ban the testing and use of Low Frequency Active Sonar Systems where it would have a deleterious effect on marine animals; and one urged the Government to have at least one person on staff at all immigration offices able to explain the Charter of Rights and Freedoms for both men and women.
A letter will be written to Human Resources Development Canada asking them to include in mail-outs about the Canada Pension Plan, a reminder about the drop out provision for child-care.
The Common Progamme that all Councils will be working on in the coming year is "Housing for the Homeless".
