NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN OF CANADA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 20, 2005
Historic NCWC Plaque Unveiled by Canadian Government
Today, August 20, 2005, witnessed a historic event. The Government of Canada, through the agency of Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, acknowledged the contribution of the National Council of Women of Canada lobbying for wide-ranging reforms in building this country's social safety net. A historic plaque was unveiled, marking the site at the Allan Gardens of the founding meeting of NCWC in 1893. For once, women's work in, and for, their communities is recognized and memorialized. It is about time. - 30 -
